Kupwara, May 21 (KNO): In a very shocking incident, the returnees from outside Jammu and Kashmir were made to sleep under open sky on Thursday night after they were dropped at Boys Higher Secondary School Kupwara. Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that at least 20 people who returned from Jammu in the wee hours today were made to sleep under open sky with no food and accommodation made available by the administration. They alleged that on reaching Kupwara town around 02:30 am they were made to sleep and wait under open sky till 10:00 am in the morning and that too without food. They said before reaching the main town officials from district administration communicated with driver to drop them at boys higher secondary ground and up on reaching there, no official from the administration was there nor any arrangement for accommodation was made for them. “We were forced to sleep in the play-ground without any blanket or anything under the open sky. This is sheer negligence on part of the district administration.” Atif Ahmad, one of the returnee said that no food or room was provided to them and they tried to communicate with the officials over phone but nobody responded. He said no food was served at Sehri and many of them were not able to observe fast as all were without food since last night. “It was very horrible experience as our own administration failed to serve and facilitate amid these tough times and even didn’t bother about our safety.” Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara who is also the nodal officer for COVID-19 said that he was not aware about this—(KNO)
